“I requested for him but the board are forcing Branthwaite on my…That’s how our problems always start”: Erik ten Hag says he only requested for a World-class defender but Man United are forcing his with Branthwaite

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is pushing for a move for Lille youngster Leny Yoro, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, with the club looking for another centre-back this summer after Raphael Varane’s departure at the end of the campaign.

In what was a hodgepodge season for the Dutchman, he managed to survive Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co’s off-season review, which included sounding out a plethora of potential replacements, alongside brainstorming over the current players.

According to The Athletica new centre-back is on the Red Devils’ shortlist this summer and Yoro fits the bill for what minority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe is looking to target: young, promising and not too expensive.

Ten Hag Pushing Club to Move for Yoro

Red Devils face competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Suggesting that Ten Hag is a keen admirer of Yoro, Galetti took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that Real Madrid, on the back of their record-extending Champions League triumph, are also eyeing a move for the young Frenchman, labelled ‘world-class’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

The Italian journalist suggested that Los Blancos, however, are looking to understand the future of central defender Nacho Fernandez before making an informed decision on whether they will provide serious competition for his signature.

“The #ManUTD coach ten Hag appreciates a lot #Yoro who – after his confirmation on the #MUFC bench – gained positions. #RealMadrid have been in talks with Leny for a long time, but first they have to understand Nacho’s decision: the CB has no chance to join AlIttihad.”

In his first season for Lille, Yoro made 44 appearances for Paulo Fonseca’s hardened outfit and, despite his tender age of 18, has become a regular fixture in the heart of the side’s back line.

Also linked with Premier League rivals Liverpool, the fight for his signature is likely to last the entirety of the summer transfer window, especially considering his Ligue 1 employers are reluctant to let him pack his bags and leave.

Matias Soule ‘Open’ to Old Trafford Switch

Juventus want fee of £34 million.

A new right-winger is not at the top of Manchester United’s priority list by any stretch of the imagination, but if the cash is available, there’s little to no doubt that Ten Hag and his entourage will be looking at an option to provide competition for or even replace Antony.

The Brazil’s tumultuous start to life in Greater Manchester continued into his second campaign at the club and, as such, Juventus’ Matias Soule has been linked with the 13-time Premier League champions.

Journalist Dylan McBennett has revealed that the Argentine, 23, would be open to an Old Trafford switch this summer if the club themselves were to lodge an interest before the trading period slammed shut.

West Ham United, too, are an interested party. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the Old Lady are looking to recoup a fee around the £34 million mark in return for the Mar del Plata-born talent and whether Ten Hag and Co are willing to pay that for a position not in dire need of reinforcements remains to be seen.

“He has signed 5-year deal, we’re just waiting for unveiling which is scheduled to hold tonight…I’m happy to be able to convince him after our long chat”: Erik ten Hag confirms Man United has completed their first summer transfer signing as he reveals the details of their private chat

After scoring the least amount of goals among the top-eight teams in the Premier League, it is natural that Manchester United will want to bring in help for Rasmus Hojlund upfront.

The Dane was clearly overplayed with Erik ten Hag having no other choice but to keep playing him as the incompetent Glazers refused to back the manager, both last summer and in January.

United have been linked with a plethora of names but recent reports have indicated that Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna is the club’s preferred target.

The chase for the Dutchman has been far from easy with the former Bayern Munich starlet eager to play as the main man upfront, something his current club were open to offering while AC Milan were also looking at making him their focal point upfront.

Zirkzee chase

United were deeply impressed with Hojlund’s impressive debut campaign and plan to keep him as their No 9 moving forward which meant Zirkzee could have to play second fiddle at times.

A release clause of €40 million meant plenty of suitors were interested but the Rossoneri and Juventus were not comfortable with paying the player’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, his commission fees.

United have no qualms over the agent fees and have agreed to pay the requisite amount and all that was needed was for the club to win the player’s confidence.

Ten Hag proceeded to personally speak to his compatriot and that seems to have done the trick if Corriere di Bologna are to be believed.

They have reported that the striker is now convinced with Ten Hag’s ongoing project at Old Trafford and is ready to join the 20-time English league champions.

Zirkzee has agreed to join United

“The latest developments in the story indicates that a farewell is now certain, with the striker ready to join Manchester United, who have apparently reached an agreement with the boy’s agent regarding the commissions and convinced the 23-year-old about his role in the technical project.

“It was Erik Ten Hag, coach of the Red Devils, who contacted Zirkzee directly to overcome his resistance to the transfer to a team that already has a very respectable attack.”

Apart from his ball-striking and dribbling ability, Zirkzee is proficient in dropping deep to link up play and can also act as a playmaker at times.

This will certainly add a different dimension to the United attack and his profile means he can play in tandem with the Denmark international due to their different styles of play.

The spotlight is on Matthijs de Ligt as far as Manchester United are concerned.

After attempting to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who appears to have been priced out of a move, United have switched their attention to Netherlands star De Ligt.

Most of you will remember his performances for Ajax when they last reached the Champions League semi-finals, under Erik ten Hag in 2019, but he has been unable to reach those heights at Juventus or Bayern Munich.

Ten Hag may be able to get the best out of De Ligt, which is why United are trying to sign the 24-year-old centre-back this summer.

According to BBC Sport, United believe they are making progress in their attempts to sign De Ligt.

United held talks with De Ligt’s advisors about a potential move to Old Trafford, while Bayern are trying to trim their wage bill.

De Ligt is currently in Germany with his country at the European Championship. That said, he is not starting in games under Ronald Koeman.

The Dutch defender has been unable to cement his place in the Bayern Munich team and the German club has been linked with moves for new centre-backs this summer.

No wonder they are willing to listen to offers for De Ligt, who is reportedly willing to take a pay cut at United.

United need to find a partner for Lisandro Martinez in the heart of defence following Raphael Varane’s departure. We need someone of high quality who is reliable and not injury prone.

De Ligt gives green light to Manchester United

In another update this afternoon, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims De Ligt has given a green light to United after direct contacts with his camp.

Romano doesn’t believe personal terms will be an issue as his agent, Rafaela Pimenta is only negotiating with United, which is a priority of the player.

Manchester United are now set to appoint Christopher Vivell as their new director of recruitment, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Vivell most recently worked at Chelsea, leaving Stamford Bridge around a year ago. The 37-year-old wasn’t there long, and he’s now available once again with United looking to bring him to Old Trafford. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has stamped his authority at the club since arriving, bringing in a host of different people behind the scenes.

Dan Ashworth was recently confirmed as a new appointment, but it appears that United aren’t stopping there in terms of backroom additions.

Vivell to Man Utd Now a Done Deal

He will join as director of recruitment.

Sky Sports reporter Plettenberg has confirmed that Vivell is set to complete a move to United with immediate effect as director of recruitment. The 37-year-old will move to Old Trafford on a short-term deal and will help in terms of transfers for the Manchester club…

“Understand it’s a DONE DEAL: Christopher Vivell is set to join Manchester United with immediate effect as their new Director of Recruitment! All that’s missing is the work permit for the 37 y/o. The former Technical Director from Chelsea with many options. But he decided to join #MUFC on a short-term contract! Vivell will help in terms of transfers in the next two windows.”

Vivell spent just seven months at Chelsea between December 2022 and July 2023, but he was let go as Todd Boehly made further changes behind the scenes.

The German has also spent time with RB Leipzig, meaning he has experienced working in a multi-club model, something United are now involved in with INEOS owning other sides.

Vivell has plenty of experience working in recruitment for some big clubs around Europe, and Ratcliffe is clearly doing everything he can to ensure United’s transfer strategy improves. It’s been a major problem for the Red Devils in recent years and Ratcliffe will be hoping to steer them in the right direction.
